The Disappointment of Fable III's DLCs: A Review

Fable II had some promising elements, but unfortunately, its sequel failed to live up to the bar set by its predecessor in many ways. Despite this underwhelming experience, Microsoft saw fit to release two expansion packs for Feral Interactive’s port on various platforms – Absolver and Hammer & Dragonbreath Tattoo.

Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that these DLCs are little more than reskinned versions of existing content with minor tweaks thrown in as supposed 'new' features. The gameplay remains largely unchanged from the main game, which is particularly disheartening given how stale things were even before purchasing these add-ons.

The Absolver pack promises a fresh set of combat moves but ultimately delivers nothing more than cosmetic changes to your character's appearance. Similarly, Hammer & Dragonbreath Tattoo offers nothing new in terms of gameplay mechanics – just another uninspired attempt at milking players for extra cash by rehashing old material under different names.

At $0.99 each or bundled together as part of the Fable III Collectors Edition In-Game Content pack for a staggering 1.99 dollars, these DLCs feel like an absolute rip-off considering what you're getting in return – essentially nothing but empty promises and disappointment wrapped up pretty nicely inside overpriced digital wrappers.

Unless you genuinely enjoy reliving the same tired experiences over again without any real incentive to do so (beyond maybe impressing your friends with your collection), then I'd highly recommend giving these two expansion packs a wide berth. There are far better ways to spend your hard-earned money, trust me on that one...
